Hi all. With the recent release of ZEN, many players have been confused over their skill build. I don't blame them; ZEN has a lot more skills than the average Adventurer especially in the early jobs. Well, I've decided to give my recommendation as to that, and I welcome any suggestions from anyone.

UPDATE (1/5/2013): Ninja reorganization for ZEN in Season 2 update. Details can be found here (full credits to locky92 for being awesome). In a nutshell, ZEN's mobility, very unfortunately, got nerfed, but damage passive enhancements have been drastically augmented, ESPECIALLY ON BOSSES WHERE YOU CRIT 95% OF THE TIME. :py08: The guide has thus been updated to post-Season 2 to satiate the meagre population of MapleSEA still willing to play our "exclusive" class. Credits to DUSTMANRyu for his Skill Point Distribution Guide which helped me a TON.

Pros
Good damage, both 1v1 (especially on bosses) and Mobbing to an extent
Passive Recovery

Cons
As of now, no hypers to talk about.
And probably for a long time /heh

Seriously unoriginal: ZEN skills are copies of that of the main Adventurer Pirate classes: Captain and Viper
1st/2nd job may be a bit slow and boring

AP Guide
UPDATE: Tempest gets rid of the secondary stat requirement for most equipment so there is no reason NOT to go pure DEX anymore. Therefore this section is mostly redundant now.
Primary Stat is DEX
Secondary Stat is STR
Distribution of AP is heavily dependant on funds and whether you are able to get equips that can give STR. I recommend going for low STR (around 20-40) as you are able to get +30 STR from Physical Training, a 2nd job skill. But the best build is still pure DEX, if you can manage to get the STR.

Here's a list of easy-to-attain stuff that can give STR:
Physical Training (+30)
Zakum/Scar or Targa Helm (+13-17/+16-20) [Just ask your higher level guild/ally mates to help you]
Cannoneer Link Skill (+15) [Just have Lvl 70+ Cannoneer for the Link Skill]
Mark of Naricain/R&J Pendant (+5/+9) [Former is preferred if you have a big enough guild/ally, latter can be obtained by doing the Romeo & Juliet PQ]
Lvl 100 Pirate Shoes (+6-7) [DRPQ Gift Box]
Lvl 100 Pirate Overall (+7) ["]
Lvl 100 Pirate Gloves (+3) ["]
Kenta's Goggles (+5) [Kenta PQ]
Marx/Cora Von Leon Belt (+7) [Escape PQ]
STR rings III and IV (+7 total) [Crafting, though there are better ones that come with WA to boot]
Neo City Time Traveller Medal (+6) [Do Neo City questline]
Minimum Total STR: 104

For information on ZEN's skills, visit the interactive patch notes at: http://maple.asiasof...et#/zen-content Take note though, the mastery level of several skills shown in this is not accurate, and it even leaves out Counterattack in 4th job. Fail

Level 29 +3 Double Shot (18)
Level 30 +3 Double Shot [Max]

End Results; Everything is Maxed except for Dragon Wing Attack which is left at 19.
Max Double Shot

This build focuses more on mobility than on damage, since at these levels you would probably be one-hitting everything anyway. First of all you would need a point in a reliable attacking skill. Dragon Wing Attack has wonderful range (The tornado even flies off the platform when it reaches the edge) while Violent Impact does more damage but is a close range skill. Add 1 into Double Shot to improve attacking speed when you don't need to mob. Chivalrous Movement and Somersault both allow you to move faster and jump further. Max Lion's Might after that for a bonus to your critical attacks, and then we add Dragon Wing Attack to 19 as it has no utility after 1st job. The reason why Violent Impact is maxed is that it can chain with a 2nd job skill, Double Helix, for a great rushing combo. After that, max Double Shot as a requirement for Triple Shots in 2nd job. It can have points put into it earlier, but you are much better off spamming DWE/VI.

ZEN 2

Playstyle:
Mobbing (Primary): Double Helix + Violent Impact Combo (Note that unless you kill with Double Helix you WILL take touch damage)
Mobbing (Secondary): Panda Earthquake
1v1: Triple Shots
Buffs: Dream (Attack), Thunder Resurgence (Attack Speed)

Damage First Build:

Level 30 +1 Double Helix (1), +1 Triple Shots (1), +1 Panda Earthquake (1), +1 Gun Mastery (1)
Level 31 +3 Gun Mastery (4)
Level 32 +1 Gun Mastery (5), +2 Thunder Resurgence (2)
Level 33 +1 Thunder Resurgence (3), +2 Gun Mastery (7)
Level 34 +3 Gun Mastery [Max]
Level 35 +3 Dream (3)
Level 36 +3 Dream (6)
Level 37 +3 Dream (9)
Level 38 +1 Dream [Max], +2 Physical Training (2)
Level 39 +3 Physical Training (5)
Level 40 +3 Physical Training (8)
Level 41 +2 Physical Training [Max], +1 Will of the Chivalrous (1)
Level 42 +3 Will of the Chivalrous (4)
Level 43 +3 Will of the Chivalrous (7)
Level 44 +3 Will of the Chivalrous [Max]

Pot Saver's Build:

Level 30 +1 Double Helix (1), +1 Triple Shots (1), +1 Panda Earthquake (1), +1 Will of the Chivalrous (1)
Level 31 +3 Will of the Chivalrous (4)
Level 32 +3 Will of the Chivalrous (7)
Level 33 +3 Will of the Chivalrous [Max]
Level 34 +3 Gun Mastery (3)
Level 35 +2 Gun Mastery (5), +1 Thunder Resurgence (1)
Level 36 +2 Thunder Resurgence (3), +1 Gun Mastery (6)
Level 37 +3 Gun Mastery (9)
Level 38 +1 Gun Mastery [Max], +2 Dream (2)
Level 39 +3 Dream (5)
Level 40 +3 Dream (8)
Level 41 +2 Dream [Max], +1 Physical Training (1)
Level 42 +3 Physical Training (4)
Level 43 +3 Physical Training (7)
Level 44 +3 Physical Training [Max]

From here on both builds will be the same:

Level 45 +3 Double Helix (4)
Level 46 +3 Double Helix (7)
Level 47 +3 Double Helix [Max]
Level 48 +3 Triple Shots (4)
Level 49 +3 Triple Shots (7)
Level 50 +3 Triple Shots (10)
Level 51 +3 Triple Shots (13)
Level 52 +3 Triple Shots (16)
Level 53 +3 Triple Shots (19)
Level 54 +1 Triple Shots [Max], +2 Panda Earthquake (3)
Level 55 +3 Panda Earthquake (6)
Level 56 +3 Panda Earthquake (9)
Level 57 +3 Panda Earthquake (12)
Level 58 +2 Panda Earthquake (14), +1 Thunder Resurgence (4)
Level 59 +3 Thunder Resurgence (7)
Level 60 +3 Thunder Resurgence [Max]

End Results;
Everything is Maxed, except for Panda Earthquake which is left at 14
Max Triple Shots

I offered 2 builds; 2nd job is really quite diverse in terms of possible Builds. Anyway, first of all you add a point into the attacking skills; Double Helix is a great attack that moves you forward and hits mobs at the same time for good damage AND it chains with Violent Impact to let you surf across a map killing everything in your way. 1 into Triple Shot to be a bit more efficient at 1v1, and Panda Earthquake which has great vertical range but is a rather slow skill (meaning the SP here is optional). After that add 5 Gun Mastery as the requirement for Thunder Resurgence, which we first put 3 points into for a 1 minute duration. After that continue to max Gun Mastery to obtain more stable damage. We then max Dream for a great buff that increases you attack. If you have not maxed Physical Training by now, max it, then max Will of the Chivalrous to use less pots at the harder hitting mobs at this level. For the Pot Saver's build Will is just maxed at the start, the order of the rest remains unchanged. From then on, the path is identical: Max Double Helix (It is much faster when chained with Violent Impact and has more uses than Panda Earthquake). Max Triple Shots as the requirement for the almightly 1v1 skill: Dartle (aka Rapidfire), then pump Panda Earthquake to 14 because why not, then Max Thunder Resurgence in order to have to recast it less.

ZEN 3

Playstyle:
Mobbing: Dual Gun Flash
Rushing + Mobbing (Secondary): Double Helix + Violent Impact
Knockback-er: Tiger's Charge
1v1: Fist of The Truth Seeker
Buffs (New): Luck of the Dice

Level 60 +1 Dual Gun Flash (1), +1 Tiger's Charge (1), +1 Fist of the Truth Seeker (1), +1 Sturdy Body (1)
Level 61 +1 Octo-Cannon (1), +2 Sturdy Body (3)
Level 62 +3 Sturdy Body (6)
Level 63 +3 Sturdy Body (9)
Level 64 +3 Sturdy Body (12)
Level 65 +3 Sturdy Body [Max]
Level 66 +3 Dual Gun Flash (4)
Level 67 +3 Dual Gun Flash (7)
Level 68 +3 Dual Gun Flash (10)
Level 69 +3 Dual Gun Flash (13)
Level 70 +3 Dual Gun Flash (16)
Level 71 +3 Dual Gun Flash (19)
Level 72 +1 Dual Gun Flash [Max], +2 Indestructible (2)
Level 73 +3 Indestructible (5)
Level 74 +3 Indestructible (8)
Level 75 +3 Indestructible (11)
Level 76 +3 Indestructible (14)
Level 77 +1 Indestructible [Max], +2 Luck of the Dice (2)
Level 78 +3 Luck of the Dice (5)
Level 79 +3 Luck of the Dice (8)
Level 80 +3 Luck of the Dice (11)
Level 81 +3 Luck of the Dice (14)
Level 82 +3 Luck of the Dice (17)
Level 83 +3 Luck of the Dice [Max]
Level 84 +3 Fist of the Truth Seeker (4)
Level 85 +3 Fist of the Truth Seeker (7)
Level 86 +3 Fist of the Truth Seeker (10)
Level 87 +3 Fist of the Truth Seeker (13)
Level 88 +3 Fist of the Truth Seeker (16)
Level 89 +3 Fist of the Truth Seeker (19)
Level 90 +3 Octo-Cannon (4)
Level 91 +3 Octo-Cannon (7)
Level 92 +3 Octo-Cannon (10)
Level 93 +3 Octo-Cannon (13)
Level 94 +2 Octo-Cannon [Max], +1 Tiger's Charge (2)
Level 95 +3 Tiger's Charge (5)
Level 96 +3 Tiger's Charge (8)
Level 97 +3 Tiger's Charge (11)
Level 98 +3 Tiger's Charge (14)
Level 99 +3 Tiger's Charge (17)
Level 100 +3 Tiger's Charge [Max]

End Result; Everything is Maxed, except for Fist of the Truth Seeker which is left at 19.

Dual Gun Flash would be your new and improved mobbing skill, complete with great horizontal AND vertical range. Tiger's Charge allows you to knockback mobs, Fist is a great but close range 1v1 skill, and the first point into Sturdy Body gives you 11% more crit and 1% PDR. Add a point to Octo-Cannon to be able to use it (it won't help THAT much though)then we max Sturdy Body for an overall increase in damage. After that max Dual Gun Flash as it would be your primary mobbing skill for a while, and then Dice for a random (hence somewhat unreliable) buff and can really help if you get lucky (a 5/6 for example). Indestructible to help you sponge some more damage from harder hitting mobs around that level range, then pump Fist to 19 for further improvement in 1v1. Fist is not maxed as it is useless in 4th job. Octo-Cannon is next for more tangible damage on it, and then point dump into Tiger's Charge, which primary use is still only to KB and so it is not a priority to be maxed.

ZEN 4

Playstyle:
Mobbing (Primary): Heroic Raid
Rushing: Double Helix + Violent Impact
1v1 (Primary): Dartle + Continual Aiming
1v1 (Secondary): Headshot
Buffs (new): Pirate Style, Double Down (buff to Dice), MW

Level 100 +1 Heroic Raid (1), +1 Dartle (1), +1 Critical Offense (1), +1 Double Down (1)
Level 101 +1 Headshot (1), +1 Continual Aiming (1), +1 Regret of the Proud Dragon (1)
Level 102 +1 Counterattack (1), +2 Double Down (3)
Level 103 +3 Double Down (6)
Level 104 +3 Double Down (9)
Level 105 +1 Double Down [Max], +2 Critical Offense (3)
Level 106 +3 Critical Offense (6)
Level 107 +3 Critical Offense (9)
Level 108 +3 Critical Offense (12)
Level 109 +3 Critical Offense (15)
Level 110 +3 Critical Offense (18)
Level 111 +3 Critical Offense (21)
Level 112 +3 Critical Offense (24)
Level 113 +3 Critical Offense (27)
Level 114 +3 Critical Offense [Max]
Level 115 +3 Counterattack (4)
Level 116 +3 Counterattack (7)
Level 117 +3 Counterattack [Max]

At this point in time, you can choose 2 routes: Maxing Heroic Raid first or maxing Pirate Style first. The former would attain much more DPS faster (from 1896% to 2360%), while the latter provides status resistance, Stance and a good 10% damage buff when maxed. Your choice.

Heroic Raid first:
Level 118 +1 Pirate Style (1), +2 Heroic Raid (3)
Level 119 +3 Heroic Raid (6)
Level 120 +3 Heroic Raid (9)
Level 121 +3 Heroic Raid (12)
Level 122 +3 Heroic Raid (15)
Level 123 +3 Heroic Raid (18)
Level 124 +3 Heroic Raid (21)
Level 125 +3 Heroic Raid (24)
Level 126 +3 Heroic Raid (27)
Level 127 +3 Heroic Raid [Max]
Level 128 +3 Pirate Style (4)
Level 129 +3 Pirate Style (7)
Level 130 +3 Pirate Style (10)
Level 131 +3 Pirate Style (13)
Level 132 +3 Pirate Style (16)
Level 133 +3 Pirate Style (19)
Level 134 +1 Pirate Style [Max], +2 Dartle (3)

Pirate Style first:
Level 118 +3 Pirate Style (3)
Level 119 +3 Pirate Style (6)
Level 120 +3 Pirate Style (9)
Level 121 +3 Pirate Style (12)
Level 122 +3 Pirate Style (15)
Level 123 +3 Pirate Style (18)
Level 124 +2 Pirate Style [Max], +1 Heroic Raid (2)
Level 125 +3 Heroic Raid (5)
Level 126 +3 Heroic Raid (8)
Level 127 +3 Heroic Raid (11)
Level 128 +3 Heroic Raid (14)
Level 129 +3 Heroic Raid (17)
Level 130 +3 Heroic Raid (20)
Level 131 +3 Heroic Raid (23)
Level 132 +3 Heroic Raid (26)
Level 133 +3 Heroic Raid (29)
Level 134 +1 Heroic Raid [Max], +2 Dartle (3)

Then on the path is identical:

Level 135 +3 Dartle (6)
Level 136 +3 Dartle (9)
Level 137 +3 Dartle (12)
Level 138 +3 Dartle (15)
Level 139 +3 Dartle (18)
Level 140 +3 Dartle (21)
Level 141 +3 Dartle (24)
Level 142 +3 Dartle (27)
Level 143 +3 Dartle [Max]
Level 144 +3 Continual Aiming (4)
Level 145 +3 Continual Aiming (7)
Level 146 +3 Continual Aiming (10)
Level 147 +3 Continual Aiming (13)
Level 148 +3 Continual Aiming (16)
Level 149 +3 Continual Aiming (19)
Level 150 +1 Continual Aiming [Max], +2 Maple Warrior (2)
Level 151 +3 Maple Warrior (5)
Level 152 +3 Maple Warrior (8)
Level 153 +3 Maple Warrior (11)
Level 154 +3 Maple Warrior (14)
Level 155 +3 Maple Warrior (17)
Level 156 +3 Maple Warrior (20)
Level 157 +3 Maple Warrior (23)
Level 158 +3 Maple Warrior (26)
Level 159 +3 Maple Warrior (29)
Level 160 +1 Maple Warrior [Max], +2 Hero's Will (2)
Level 161 +3 Hero's Will [Max]
Level 162 +3 Headshot (4)
Level 163 +3 Headshot (7)
Level 164 +3 Headshot (10)
Level 165 +3 Headshot (13)
Level 166 +3 Headshot (16)
Level 167 +3 Headshot (19)
Level 168 +3 Headshot (22)
Level 169 +3 Headshot (25)
Level 170 +3 Headshot (28)
Level 171 +2 Headshot [Max], +1 Regret of the Proud Dragon (2)
Level 172 +3 Regret of the Proud Dragon (5)
Level 173 +3 Regret of the Proud Dragon (8)
Level 174 +3 Regret of the Proud Dragon (11)
Level 175 +3 Regret of the Proud Dragon (14)
Level 176 +3 Regret of the Proud Dragon (17)
Level 177 +3 Regret of the Proud Dragon (20)
Level 178 +3 Regret of the Proud Dragon (23)
Level 179 +3 Regret of the Proud Dragon (26)
Level 180 +3 Regret of the Proud Dragon (29)
Level 181 +1 Regret of the Proud Dragon [Max], 2 Free SP
Level 182-200 57 Free SP

End Results; Everything is Maxed, 59 Free SP

Ah... Congrats on your Zen 4. This is where everything becomes almost the same as Captain. A point in Heroic Raid for an OP mobbing move, Dartle for 1v1 (I hope you've maxed Triple Shots), Critical Offense for an initial huge bonus to your Crits ad Double Down for a greater bonus if you get really lucky. At 101, Headshot and Continual Aiming to be able to use them. A point in Regret is solely for fun though, it is an otherwise useless ultimate that is only for show. First we add a point into Counterattack, which provides a nice damage boost when you get hit, then we quickly max Double Down to improve the chances of rolling doubles. After that, max Critical Offense for a huge damage increment, especially against bosses. Max Counterattack next to improve the additional damage it grants as well as its duration. The 2 paths that can be taken next are outlined above, though do note that Pirate's Style pairs up nicely with Counterattack as it reduces your avoid and grants Stance when you get hit to activate Counterattack. Now we focus on the 1v1 skills: Dartle and Continual Aiming. Max Maple Warrior if you can afford it to improve damage way more than any other skill at this point of time, if not cap it at 9/19. It is highly recommended for you to save some SP to max it when you can afford the books. Max Hero's Will to help when bossing. Headshot has a really long delay and it already comes with the OHKO effect at level 1, and so is maxed late, but Regret being the most useless skill in your arsenal is the last. The rest of the SP can be saved for no purpose or dumped into the rush skills from 1st/2nd job.

Also to add on: MAybe ts can put this up for all zen:

I left it as an option in 2nd job; people may still want to use Panda Earthquake for its instant dealing of high damage even at Level 1.

Nope I don't think there was such a mistake in the build. :)

You won't have enough SP to max the rest.

Do people just add DEX and play a pure DEX Zen?

EDIT: Added a minisection on AP distribution.

Yes, its alright. Since you do not need to max truth seeker as it will be replaced by dartle in 4th job. Pls go ahead. B)
